When one member is hurting, the whole family can suffer. Grief, trauma, ineffective coping skills and layers of pain can create an unpleasant home life.
Interpersonal dynamics can create chaos and individuals can escalate each other. Sometimes it feels like there is no solution.
Family Therapy can help your family face the underlying issues, learn how to work through the difficult seasons, communicate and find balance again.
If you or someone you know could benefit from Family Therapy, please contact us for details!
Behavioral issues including irritability, refusal to cooperate, lack of concentration, hyper-vigilance, hyperactivity, bossiness, tattling, lying, stealing and concealing can indicate an underlying problem.
Children often lack the verbal and emotional regulation skills needed to express their feelings. Add that to the guilt, shame and fear that comes from believing something may have been their fault, and you have one hurting little kiddo.
Children who struggle at school may be absent more often and/or prone to suspensions, leading to academic struggles and/or SARB action. See the School Counseling page.
Child Therapy enters the child's world of play to help him or her identify and process grief, work through trauma issues, express feelings, and develop new coping skills. Therapeutic methods include child directed play, sand tray, art, music, story telling, and a variety of other creative, expressive modalities.
We also offer a Multi-Sensory Environment (MSE) for use in treatment of a variety of childhood concerns including trauma recovery, anxiety, depression, ADHD and more.

If you and your child's other parent or guardian are struggling to agree on issues related to parenting, Co-Parenting or Parallel Parenting Therapy might be able to help.
Sometimes, this type of therapy is ordered by the Court. This may happen in cases of high conflict divorce or long -standing disagreements related to custody, visitation, and/or time share. Please note that in cases of Court ordered Therapy, confidentiality may be limited- meaning the Therapist may be required to submit a report on participation and progress.
Co-Parenting | Parallel Parenting Therapy isn't a specific "type" of therapy, per se. It is a construct (an idea or theory) based on a variety of theories and therapies, applied specifically to a family whose members are in conflict related to parenting issues. The goals of therapy are different for each family, but typically involve...
- addressing underlying issues ("the backstory")
- helping each parent or guardian feel heard
- creating an environment where the parents or guardians work together for the best interest of the child
- preserving the child's relationships with all safe adults
- facilitating the safe exchange of information about the child
- learning effective, positive techniques to manage strong emotions and cooperate on specific goals
Therapy can be provided in a variety of modalities for parents or guardians to address issues related to anger management, trauma recovery, effective parenting skills, attachment, and conflict resolution.
If you would like to know more about Co-Parenting or Parallel Parenting Therapy, please call.
When CPS has been involved with your family, the Court will either decide to remove the children from your home for a time, or will allow your children to stay in the home, with supportive services, like parenting classes and counseling.
FCCS assists families with...
- reaching physical and emotional safety goals
- improving communication
- increasing feelings of being connected
- accessing resources within the community
- and other goals, as defined by the family (and Court, when applicable)
If you are in need of Family Maintenance (also known as Family Preservation) services, consider becoming an EPIC Family with us. We will collaborate with you and your Social Worker in coordinating services and providing reports for the Court.

Some benefits of the EPIC Family Program include parent education classes, case management and resource referral. Therapy and group counseling can make a nice addition to your family's healing journey.
The FCYFC EPIC Family Program works with families who:
- have an “open case” with CSD/ Child Protective Services (CPS) and/or whose children remain at home (called "Family Maintenance" or "Family Preservation")
or
- have an "open case" with CSD/CPS and have a family plan requiring parenting classes, counseling / therapy or other family intervention services.
or
- have children who have returned home from out-of-home (kinship or other foster) care and would like transitional assistance

- want frequent services to support increased positive social, emotional and behavioral functioning within the family and community.
EPIC services may also be provided in the community, a relative’s home, or the FCYFC office, as appropriate for safety and confidentiality.
These services may be voluntary or Court-ordered. EPIC services may include:
- non-judgmental identification and resolution of issues that brought the family into contact with the service system
- plan for prevention of re-entry into state custody, where applicable
- safety / action plans that address the “how” aspect of change
- identification and use of individual and family strengths to problem-solve and succeed in established goals
- participation in support groups to meet other parents with similar success-oriented goals, if desired (some Court orders may mandate support group attendance)
- case management services, where applicable
- resource and referral to other services that may assist the family
